Infra-Red Heating

General Motors was paying around $106,000 per year to heat its warehouse in Euclid, Ohio. After installing Solaronics infra-red heaters, energy costs plummeted to $27,000, a 75% savings. Employee morale was greatly improved. And the payback period was less than 15 months.

Thousands of Solaronics customers with airplane hangars, service garages, loading docks, manufacturing plants and many other building types have realized these same incredible benefits. They also enjoy equal or greater employee comfort at lower thermostat settings; protection of stored materials; and quick recovery from door openings. Since air movement is not required as a means of heat transfer, heat losses, chilling drafts, noise and airborne dust and dirt are reduced. Stratification is decreased. And our natural resources are conserved.

The Theory of Infra-Red Heating

Infra-red heat is a form of electromagnetic energy similar to visible light. It travels at 186,000 miles per second in a straight line with minimal loss of energy to air and can be aimed, reflected, or focused in a desired area. When infra-red energy strikes an object it is converted into heat. This form of heat transfer is called radiation. Surrounding air is then warmed by convection and conduction.

Therefore, personnel, equipment and floor areas are heated first and air space second.

The Leader in Quality Infra-Red Heating

Established in 1962, Solaronics has gained vast knowledge from over 45 years of customer feedback. This combined with computer aided design and manufacturing, research and development, employee education, quality assurance, robotics, and several hundred years of combined experience have developed only the highest quality products. Nearly 1,200 models, the industry’s widest selection, are currently available to fit the needs of any new or renovated industrial or commercial facility.

Two types of infra-red heaters are available with inputs ranging from 30,000 to 200,000 BTUH. Low-intensity heaters which utilize a steel tube for infra-red generation; High-intensity heaters which utilize a ceramic combustion surface for infra-red generation.
