History

Leland Hanchett Jr patented and introduced the first electric strike capable of releasing a 1" deadbolt. This innovation, invented in his basement in Boston, Massachusetts, was named the HES 1000 series. (the 1006 series today) It utilized an ANSI 4 7/8" cutout. HES sold these electric strikes to OEM manufacturers who used them to supplement their own product lines. In 1994, HES began establishing their own label in all U.S. and Canadian territories. By mid-1996, the company was positioned as a serious market contender.
