FireGuard™—
Accordion-Type Fire Doors & Moveable Fire Wall
The Won-Door FireGuard™ system provides enhanced fire safety with its
24 gauge corrugated steel panels and 6-8 inch dead air space with fire protective
liner. For more than 20 years, Won-Door’s FireGuard system has lead the
market in fire safety design, proving itself time and again in rigorous tests
to ensure it exceeds all three model building codes. In many projects, Won-Door
FireGuard systems have proven to be the only practical solutions that meet code.
FireGuard’s design is approved by the US model building codes and the
IBC for almost unrestricted use in egress applications, and UL listings for
up to 3 hours as a fire door. In addition, FireGuard doors are also recognized
by many other state and local governments. A tight-fitting floor sweep and fire
liner provide excellent seals for blocking both smoke and toxic fumes. The doors
meet code requirements for “tight-fitting smoke and draft control”
doors as demonstrated in special smoke and draft-control testing for model building
code approval.
Patented Design Features
FireGuard’s patented track-and-trolley system supports each panel with
a separate pin and roller, evenly distributing panel weight, and ensuring a
tight fit. This unique design allows the spanning of unlimited widths and heights
up to 23 feet.
Curved Opening Applications
Unlike conventional fire-rated doors, only the Won-Door FireGuard™ system
can be specified in curved openings. With a minimum radius of five feet, Won-Door
FireGuard can accomplish what has previously been impossible.
No Floor Track
FireGuard achieves smoke and draft control without a floor track.
Out of Sight When Not in Use
Despite its effectiveness as both a fire and smoke barrier, FireGuard™
doors fold to just inches per foot, and can become almost invisible with pocket
cover doors blending into the surrounding decor.
Automatic Operation in Event of a Fire
The system can be programmed to close when activated by a smoke alarm, using
its fail-safe back-up DC power supply if necessary.
Disability Access & Manual Override
FireGuard's pressure-sensitive leading edge will stop door closure immediately
upon contact with an obstruction, pause momentarily, and then continue to close.
Automatic operation can be overridden at any time. Fire-exit hardware can be
installed that will open the door a preprogrammed width, pause and then continue
to close at each activation.
Centralized Control
A control unit located in the wall pocket enables door status to be monitored
from a central location. Position, control function, and status of back-up DC
power supply can be monitored at a glance.
Typical Won-Door FireGuard Applications
Use of the Won-Door FireGuard system has become a reliable and practical approach
to solving a vast array of fire safety issues:
- ADA Compliance
- Area Separation
- Atrium Separation
- Corridor Separation
- Elevator Lobby Separation
- Horizontal Exits
- Occupancy Separation
- Safe Areas of Refuge
- Smoke Barrier
- Smoke & Draft Control
- Stage Proscenium Protective
- Vertical Opening Protective
Moveable Fire Wall (MFW)
A Moveable Fire Wall is a separate fire-resistive rating given the Won-Door FireGuard system after testing in accordance with ASTM E-119. The principle difference in the listing is that Moveable Fire Walls are required to maintain a low back-face temperature during the test. The average of all thermocouples cannot exceed 250°F above the ambient (room) temperature. The applications for Moveable Fire Walls differ from traditional uses for fire doors by allowing architects to protect large openings even when code restricts the size of penetrations.

Each 24 gauge steel panel in a Won-Door is corrugated for extra strength. Surface colors and vinyl finishes are permanently bonded to resist dings, dents, and scratches. Won-Door partitions operate on a patented two-track system with no internal parts to damage. The dead-air space between the two walls creates an effective sound barrier as well as a cushion against even the most severe blows. A Won-Door door can withstand a tremendous amount of abuse without showing a mark or scratch. Won-Doors partitions are available in a wide variety of colors and simulated wood grain finishes.
Won-Door partitions can be installed by trained personnel using simple tools, with no special equipment. With simple tools and no training, in-house maintenance people can quickly repair damaged parts by simply removing and replacing any single panel, hinge or roller while the door remains in place. Won-Door partitions are the only system that allow in-place repair. A repair section of track is provided to insure that panel sections can be removed and replaced without disturbing the rest of the partition.
