WIRE-BOND®'s products are manufactured in compliance with the following
building codes:
SBCC – Southern Building Code Congress
BOCA – Building Officials Congress in America
ICBO – International Conference of Building Officials
ACI/ASCE 530 Code – Building Code Requirements for Masonry structures
Place wire reinforcement on block and apply mortar. Each should be
centered by eye approximately 1" within both interior and exterior
wall edges. (Width of side rods on reinforcement to be approximately 2"
less than nominal wall thickness). Fill the collar joint between back-up
and facing with mortar as the work progresses or slush fill to 1 to 23
p.c. grout. Spacing ties should be in accordance with local building code
requirements. In the absence of a building code requirement, they should
be installed continuously in horizontal mortar joint and at vertical
intervals of not less than 16". The top course and the first two
courses above and below wall openings should be reinforced in all walls.
At opening, the reinforcement should extend 24" to the end of the
panel. Lap all sections 6" to form proper splices.
WIRE-BOND® has designed its manufacturing facility to meet or exceed requirements
of ACI 530 Code (building code requirements for masonry structures). The code
specifies the following:
- Except as otherwise specified, provide joint reinforcement
manufactured with wire conforming to ASTM A 82 and with deformed
longitudinal wires. One set of deformations shall occur around the
perimeter of the wire at a maximum spacing of 0.7 times the diameter of
the wire but there shall not be less than eight sets per inch or length.
- Deformed reinforcing wire - Provide deformed reinforcing wire that
conforms to ASTM A 496.
- Welded wire fabric - Provide welded wire fabric that conforms to one
of the following specifications:
a. Plain - ASTM A 185
b. Deformed - ASTM A 497
Provides anchors,
ties and accessories that conform with the following specifications,
except as otherwise specified:
- Plate & bent bar anchors – ASTM A 36
- Sheet metal anchors & ties – ASTM A 366
- Wire mesh ties – ASTM A 185
- Wire, ties & anchors – ASTM A 82
- Anchor bolts – ASTM A307, Grade A
- Panel Anchors (for glass unit masonry) – Provide 1-3/4" (19mm)
wide, 24" (610mm) long, 20 ga. steel strips, punched with three
staggered rows of elongated holes, galvanized after fabrication.
When required, provide type 304 stainless steel items that comply with
the following specifications:
- Joint reinforcement – ASTM A 580
- Plate & bent bar anchors – ASTM A 666
- Sheet metal anchors & ties – ASTM A 167
- Wire ties & anchors – ASTM A 580
Unless otherwise
required, protect carbon steel joint reinforcement, ties and anchors from
corrosion by galvanizing in conformance with the following minimum.
- Joint reinforcement, interior walls
ASTM A 641 (0.1 oz/ft²)
(0.031 kg/m²)
- Joint reinforcement, wire ties, or wire anchors in exterior walls or
interior walls exposed to a mean relative humidity exceeding 75% (e.g.
natatoria and food processing)
ASTM A 153 (1.50 oz/ft²)
(0.46 kg/m²)
- Sheet metal ties, or anchors in exterior walls or interior walls
exposed to a mean relative humidity exceeding 75% (e.g. natatoria and
food processing)
ASTM A 153 Class B
- Sheet metal ties, or anchors in interior walls
ASTM A 525
Class G60
- Steel plates and bars (as applicable to size and form indicated)
ASTM A 123 or ASTM A 153, Class B
