A VM ZINC® roof is an absolute contemporary roof system. VM ZINC® roofs
have been installed successfully for centuries. A VM ZINC® roof lasts for
50 – 100 years and during this time needs no maintenance because it has
no color or coating that wears off or fades. VM ZINC® roofs can assume almost
any shape you can imagine, the most traditional and popular system is a Double
Lock Standing Seam but smaller panels like shingles are catching up.
ADEKA is a pre-formed VM ZINC® shingle product that allows rapid installation.
The tiles are installed with a 2” overlap. Polystyrene is bonded to the
underside of the shingles, providing an increased sound insulation from rain
and hail and making it possible to walk on the roof. It can also be used as
a wall element.
ADEKA elements are installed quickly and easily, starting from the bottom and
working up, using three screws in pre-drilled rimmed holes. The bottom row is
held in place with a locking key fitted adjacent ADEKA elements.
With ADEKA designers can create a striking tile effect utilizing the natural
grey color of zinc without having to resort to artificially colored metals.
It is available in both surface aspects, QUARTZ ZINC® and ANTHRA ZINC®.

This is a very traditional longitudinal assembly system for a zinc roof. In
fact it is probably the oldest technique. The batten seam creates an expression
of strong, conspicuous contours, often sought after by architects for its shadow
effects and urban character.
A timber batten, 1½” (38mm) or 2” (51mm) in height and trapezoidal
or rectangular in shape, is fixed with nails or screws onto the timber decking.
The zinc sheets and long strips are held in place by a zinc batten clip supporting
the peripheral upstands. The capping strips, in lengths of 39 1/2” (1000mm)
are placed into position by overlapping. They are fixed at the top by a nailing
clip which secures the upper end of the panel while at the same time allowing
it to expand freely.

VM DEXTER ZINC is a standing seam shingle made by Umicore. It's the product
to specify when budget is tight but still want the look for a short DLSS panel
with low installation costs. They are packed 6 in a box and 20 boxes to a skid.
Each box contains the clips and fasteners to install the panels. One VM DEXTER
ZINC panel covers about 6 square feet and comes in either QUARTZ ZINC® PLUS
(preweathered grey) or ANTHRA ZINC® PLUS (preweathered black).
VM DEXTER ZINC is a patented, pre-formed VM ZINC® PLUS roofing system for
use on roofs with slopes of 2 1/2:12 (21%) or more (2:12 (17%) in areas exposed
to heavy snow falls). VM DEXTER ZINC is a complete system and includes an extensive
range of accessories such as: clips and flashings for ridge, eaves, verge, edge,
and valley. VM DEXTER ZINC provides all the aesthetics of zinc roofing with
parallel strips similar to traditional techniques, just with much lower installation
costs.

Double Lock Standing Seam (DLSS) is one of the most traditional ways of laying
a metal roof and has not lost any of its popularity today. A double lock seam
roof might be more sophisticated though that what you are used from typical
snap lock and nail strip kind roofs you see with other metals. It certainly
requires more hand skills than simple snap and nail systems. However we believe
the end results very much justifies this.
A well installed DLSS roof in VM ZINC® might easily last for decades and
decades, which is one reason why we do not encourage caulking and riveting.
That would reduce the life span of the roof to the lifespan of a rivet or caulk.
Most penetrations can be folded in and so can all the flashings. Soldering has
its place in some areas of our roofs.

Technically these little elements are no different than Flat Lock panels. At
least not as far as the connection of the pieces is concerned. They are treated
differently because with roofs, typically they are smaller elements. Sometimes
such small elements are referred to as "rauten", which is the German
word for a diamond shape.
In general small elements are rectangular in shape and are used in almost any
size.
Very typical are 1x1’ and 2x2’ (305 x 305mm and 610 x 610mm). Keep
in mind the smaller the panels the higher the manufacturing costs and at the
end also the installed costs. As fasteners for a VM ZINC® shingle system
VM ZINC® flat lock clips must be used.
