Pre-Formed Metal Flashing
Flashing can be composed of various materials that include stainless
steel and copper. These various characteristics complement flashing by
enhancing the materials performance, durability and longevity. When a heavier
flashing is necessary, Sandell®s Pre-Formed Metal Flashing is the
proper
choice for moisture protection.
Mechanically Keyed Flashing
This products unparalleled design has the ability to bond in three
different directions as it resists water and caustic compounds with unfailing
performance. Sandell®s Mechanically Keyed Flashing forms an interlocking
barrier within the mortar bed that provides extensive protection and defies
moisture penetration.
Pre-Formed Metal Flashing
Sandell®s Pre-Formed Metal Flashing is among the most durable
flashing material available. Whether it is annealed stainless steel or
copper, both provide an excellent moisture barrier with exceptional chemical
resistance. The exclusive pre-formed shape and ready-made lengths render
watertight installation. Sandell®s Pre-Formed Metal flashing is noted
for its unchallenged ability to deflect moisture permanently. The design
of the flashing is always unique and specific to the customers requirements
and it can be custom-made to any order. The determination of the gauge,
angles, bends, dimensions, type of material and length are all the customers
discretion. Crafted with such precision, the ease of use is apparent upon
installation and the application requires no sealant or solder - except
under certain conditions.
Use -Sandell®s Pre-Formed Metal Flashing was created
to insure moisture protection in masonry structures. It should be used
at floor levels, beneath sills, over lintels, continuous at spandrel beams,
beneath
copings and elsewhere as mandated.
Type -Mechanically keyed flashing with 3" intervals provides
a bond in the mortar bed, in three different directions, creating a watertight
seal without the use of solder or sealants -(except under certain conditions).
The tri-level design in the mechanically keyed flashing allows moisture
to exit the structure quickly and uninhibited.
Gauge/Sizes -Mechanically keyed flashing is available
in Stainless Steel, Copper, and Lead Coated Copper. Concealed flashing
applications such as floor levels, sills, lintels and spandrel beams use
22, 26, 28 Gauge Stainless Steel or 10 oz., 12 oz., 16 oz., or 20 oz. Copper.
When flashing is exposed use 22, 26, 28 Gauge Stainless Steel or 10 oz.,
12 oz., 16 oz., or 20 oz. Copper, 16oz. Lead Coated Copper.
Sandell®s Mechanically Keyed Flashing is manufactured in easy to
install lengths. It is available in 88 sheets in Copper, Stainless Steel
or Lead Coated Copper.
Installation -Concealed flashings should be installed
at 1/2" from the exterior face of the wall, continuing through the wall,
carrying up one course of brick. The flashing should then terminate with
a 2" bend at the top, in a step formation. Upon installation flashing should
be overlapped no less than 1-1/2 . Where a bend is not possible, flashing
should be terminated, sealed and secured to the substrate. If there is
a backup wall composed of block, the flashing should be inserted into the
horizontal joint.
It is recommended that lintel and sill flashings continue at least 4"
further than the jambs of the opening. Installation of flashing at spandrel
beams should continue throughout. When encountering a vertical shortcoming,
the flashing should be directed upward a minimum of 2" and then secured
with mastic.
The mechanically keyed flashing should be laid in a fresh layer of mortar
and then pressed down into the mortar bed to secure and seal the mechanically
keyed interval. Flashing should then be topped with an additional slurry
of mortar, in preparation to receive the course of brick.
Specifications -Thru-wall flashings shall be mechanically
keyed as manufactured by Sandell® Manufacturing Co., Inc. Mechanically
keyed flashing shall be manufactured so it has the ability to bond in three
different directions, interlocking together to provide a seamless and continuous
flashing application.
