Gaskets

What is a gasket?
Gaskets are compressible sealants that work well under pressure. For example, gaskets are used in high performance vehicles to seal engine blocks, keep interiors dry, dampen vibration, and prevent leakage of liquids and gases. Similarly, Norton® Foam tape gaskets can boost the performance of your building projects.

Use them to seal the building envelope against air and water infiltration, keep dust out of clean rooms, prevent noise from leaking around the perimeter of partitions, create a thermal break, and simplify erection procedures. Norton® tapes exceed ASTM and AAMA requirements and have been proven in all types of buildings and construction for over 25 years.

Compared to pumpable or gun-grade sealants, foam tape gaskets are easy to install and can be pre-sized to fit a joint. Gaskets allow joints to open and close without having to scrape-off and reapply sealant, so you can use them in operating equipment or demountable systems. And unlike other types of sealants, Norton tapes do not dry out or become brittle.

How do they work?
Norton tapes have a closed-cell foam structure which resists air, water, vapor, and noise penetration. When compressed, the cell walls retain a memory of their original shape and exert an outward pressure to seal a joint, even against irregular surfaces. Manufactured from high-quality polymers, Norton tapes remain resilient and deliver long-term serviceability in most of today's demanding building environments.

Practical Alternative

EASY TO INSTALL
Why bother with caulk guns when Norton's on a roll? Pumping caulk quickly tires even the strongest contractor, resulting in application errors and gaps in the sealant bead. Norton tapes install quickly and consistently. Just position them where needed and press lightly into place, then finish assembling the joint – no tooling required.

CLEANER
Norton tapes eliminate the sticky problems associated with other types of caulks and sealants. Hands and tools stay clean, spills are eliminated, the tapes don't pick-up job site dust, and harsh solvents are not required to clean excess sealant. Since Norton tapes don't run or sag, they won't ooze onto walls or glazing sight lines.

ECONOMICAL
Save, time and money with Norton tapes:
- They are competitively priced.
- Backer rods are not required.
- Surface preparation is minimal or not required.
- Installation is faster.
- Waste is reduced – Norton tapes don't dry out in caulk tubes.

VERSATILE
Use Norton tapes in glazing, prefabrication, wall panels and partitions, and almost anywhere building components can be assembled to form a compression seal.

PROVEN RELIABILITY
Norton tapes are used worldwide in all climates and building types. In addition to job site use, they are relied upon by leading window manufacturers and building prefabricators. They resist weathering, UV, oxidation, mildew and fungus, and adjust to thermal movement of structural elements without leaking. Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics, the leading producer of specialty foam tapes, has ongoing product research and development and is ISO 9001 certified.

Fill the Gaps In Your Sealant Specifications
No single sealant can meet all building requirements. That's why Norton tapes belong in your specifications. The unique features of Norton tapes makes them the best choice for many sealant applications.

Norton tapes are installed before the joint is assembled. This makes them especially useful for sealing surfaces which are not accessible after erection. They simplify and speed construction because Norton tapes can be applied in the shop or while building components are still on the ground. This gets your building enclosed sooner and eliminates the cost of returning to the job with scaffolds and special crews just to install sealants.
