PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Basic Use
Acousti-Mat® Sound Control Systems offer a cost-effective means to substantially reduce flooring impact noise, even with ceramic and wood floors. When installed, Acousti-Mat systems create a void area between the subfloor and the underlayment that helps reduce impact and sound transmission over concrete by as much as 25 rating points and up to 17 rating points over wood frame construction.

Acousti-Mat is fast and easy to install, making it ideal for fast- track projects. After laying Acousti-Mat over the subfloor, Maxxon floor specialists pour a high-strength Maxxon underlayment on top, completing the system. For new construction or renovation, the Acousti-Mat System is available in 4 sound control levels.

Composition and Materials
Acousti-Mat LPR, Acousti-Mat II, Enkasonic and Acousti-Mat 3 systems are composed of fused nylon filaments attached to a non-woven fabric. All are made with 40% pre-consumer recycled content and are GREENGUARD Children and Schools Certified. Acousti-Mat LP consists of polymeric fibers bound with polymer adhesives.

Types

Acousti-Mat® II
Acousti-Mat® II is the industry standard and accepts a thin floating floor composite. It is ideal in both new and retrofit flooring applications where floor height is a concern. Acousti-Mat II increases IIC and STC levels up to 10 rating points over wood frame and IIC levels up to 20 rating points over concrete. Acoustic-Mat II has 40% pre-consumer recycled content and may contribute points toward LEED project certification.

Enkasonic®
Enkasonic sound control mats create sound-rated floors with the high impact insulation class (IIC) and sound transmission class (STC) levels required by the International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO), International Building Code (IBC), and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for luxury developments. Tests results indicate that after 10 years of use, Enkasonic retains 97% of its original thickness, is as pliable as a new roll, and performs equally to a newly manufactured roll. Enkasonic increases IIC and STC levels up to 12 rating points over wood frame and IIC levels up to 20 rating points over concrete. Enkasonic is made of 40% pre-consumer recycled content and may contribute points toward LEED project certification and GREENGUARD Children and Schools Certified.

Acousti-Mat® 3
Acousti-Mat® 3 provides 3 times more airspace than Acousti-Mat II and delivers an additional 7-10 sound control rating points. For open beam, concrete slab and conventional wood frame construction, Acousti-Mat 3 increases IIC and STC levels up to 17 rating points over wood frame and IIC levels up to 25 rating points or more over concrete. Acousti-Mat® 3 is made with 40% pre-consumer recycled content and may contribute points toward LEED project certification and GREENGUARD Children and Schools Certified.

Acousti-Mat® LP
Acousti-Mat® LP (Low Profile) is a sound control mat used over concrete slabs and topped with a Maxxon underlayment or Level-Right® WearTop to improve IIC ratings. Acousti-Mat LP provides a tough, durable mat with water repellent features and excellent reductions in sound transmission and sound reflection, achieving a Delta IIC rating of 19 – a reduction in impact noise of approximately 75%.

Acousti-Mat® LPR
Acousti-Mat® LPR is an entangled mesh attached to a unique blend of polymeric fibers. LPR can be attached to a concrete or wood subfloor and then topped with a gypsum or self-leveling underlayment. In this application, the PR system can meet the 50 IIC sound control rating required by the IBC.

Benefits
Acousti-Mat Sound Control Systems offer a cost-effective means to meet performance specifications in new construction and renovation projects. Acousti-Mat Sound Control Systems:

  • Are fast and easy to install
  • Reduce impact noise up to 75%
  • Are suitable for new construction or renovation

Fast, Easy Installation

  1. Sound Mat, is loose laid over the entire concrete or wood subfloor.
  2. Isolation strips are installed, than taped around the perimeter of the entire room, to eliminate flanking paths. Isolation strips are also installed, then taped around any vertical penetration through the floor.
  3. Seams between sections of Sound Mat are adhered with zip strips or taped.*
  4. Acousti-Mat II is covered with a 1" (25 mm) minimum topping of approved Maxxon® Underlayment. Acousti-Mat 3 is covered with wire mesh and 1-1/2” (38 mm) of Maxxon Underlayment. To ensure uniform depth and a smooth finish, installers use a “screed” to finish the underlayment surface. (If Acousti-Mat is installed only in hard surface areas, the underlayment is poured directly over the subfloor in areas to be covered with carpet and pad.)
  5. In as little as two hours after the underlayment has been poured, the floor is hard enough to accommodate foot traffic, so light subtrades may continue working. Total drying time varies depending on the type of finished floor goods to be installed, but is generally completed within 10 to 14 days.

*Once the mat has been loose laid, no further penetrations should be made. Rigid attachment through the sound mat minimizes the sound performance.

Limitations

  1. The structural floor should be adequate to withstand design loads with a deflection limitation of L-360.

  2. Acousti-Mat should be installed after the drywall.

  3. Acousti-Mat should not be installed over delaminated wood subfloors.
