High Performance Retractable Pedestrian Barriers

Technical Description

The retractable pedestrian barrier series type MPR (Magnetic Pedestrian Retractable) and MPH (Magnetic Pedestrian High Door) are designed to control pedestrians entering or exiting restricted areas. Both barrier types offer the highest opening/closing speeds possible to deter tailgate attempts while facilitating high throughput. The MPH High Door barriers feature extended height panels for ultimate deterrence of jump-over or crawl-under attempts while the MPR barriers are more compact in nature allowing for more design flexibility. Wide lanes are available to support handicapped people, oversized luggage and other applications requiring wider passage. The construction consists of sheet metal housings that can be configured to meet individual customer needs. The retractable barriers close immediately after passage or after a user-specified amount of time. The opening and closing times of the gate can be programmed differently, dependent on the type and size of obstacle used. The gates can be easily configured for single or multi-directional access control.

Fields of Application
  • Fare Collection
  • Aircraft Boarding
  • Trusted Traveler Programs
  • Automatic Immigration
  • Public Transport
  • Commercial Buildings
  • Sports Stadiums
  • Museums
  • Airports
Motor Drive

The high performance retractable pedestrian barriers feature our patented Magnetic High Torque Motor MHTM®. The motor offers numerous benefits including a nearly noise-free operation, smallest dynamic impact forces, impact detection, lowest abrasion and fastest opening/closing times. The MHTM® motor operates under constant power in the default position; therefore the heat dissipated prevents condensation buildup to prolong life. There are no gearboxes, pulleys or other high maintenance parts resulting in no backlash and minimal wear and tear. The design lifetime of the MHTM® is in excess of 30 Million cycles or a minimum of 10 Years in a pedestrian gate application.

Logic

Housings are equipped with an array of PE beams for safety and passenger detection. The gate detects persons entering from the wrong direction and tailgating attempts - indicated by buzzer or by activation of a potential free contact (i.e. to alert security guard). To prevent fraud attempts the wings are mechanically blocked in the closed position. In case of power failure or emergency, the wings are unlocked and opened by the spring-balanced drive mechanism (UPS can be supplied for locking if required).

  • Modular design
  • CAN Bus interface for networking
  • Power stage 3 phase servo drive
  • Closed loop operation for precise positioning
  • Ramping up and ramping down configuration
  • Fully adjustable speed
  • Position feedback
Gate Controller

This controller provides a level of flexibility to fulfill customer requirements. Full control of the gate can be performed by the backend system via the serial port to receive full gate status. In a stand alone environment, simple switch commands allow the operation of the gate to occur while the processing of the patron is performed by the gate controller. LED indicators make it easy for operation and error diagnostics.

  • CAN Bus or serial interface for networking
  • System can be extended via RS232 / RS422 / RS485 / CAN-Bus / I2C-Bus
  • 8 Inputs, 6 Relay Outputs, 4 MOSFET Outputs
  • Heartbeat Output
Housing

Gate housings are available in stainless steel or powder coating with a protection class of IP32 (other available upon request). Various access control devices (i.e. card readers, finger print readers) can be accommodated on a stainless steel fascia panel located at each end. Each end of the barriers features a gate end display (Red Cross and Green Arrow) to identify the passage direction to the user.
