Sculpture and Ornamental Metal
The Cardinal Indianapolis, IN Jeff Laramore, Artist The Cardinal is a modern impression of the State Bird of Indiana. The overall size is approximately 48 long and 30 high. The sculpture rests on the wall of a plaza in front of the new Marriott Courtyard Hotel, just west of downtown Indianapolis. It faces north, overlooking the Indiana State Museum. The construction is compound curved aluminum plate bolted to sub-frames of a steel box beam spar with aluminum ribs. There are several sections making up the entire piece. The design was initially presented to Linel as a series of sketches. The sketches were creatively and accurately interpreted into engineering drawings for construction. The Cardinal is finished with a high gloss, high performance Coraflan coating. Linel designed, engineered, fabricated, finished and erected the Cardinal.
