High Museum of Art Woodruff Art Center Atlanta, GA Renzo Piano Building Workshop The Woodruff Art Center at the High Museum of Art is an addition of three galleries designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop. The design ties in and compliments earlier buildings by Richard Meier. The façade panels are an integrated hybrid of panels and skylights. The rain-screen panels are a hook and pin system. The top row of panels are 17 feet high, custom formed and welded, integrating a transition at the roofs edge to the top row of the skylights to complete the architectural continuity. To create the soft light effect, multiple small skylights were designed, each with its own sun shade or Vela. We provided the skylights and Velas in a single-source turnkey design of fabrication and installation effort. The skylights accommodated adjustable placement of the Velas. The 1000 skylights on each building are three feet in diameter on a three foot high light tube. The Velas are five feet high at the apex, specially formed to solar azimuth paths to shade the skylights.
