Custom Wall Panel Systems

Custom Wall Panel Systems

Linel is quite comfortable with custom panel systems – a recent building is clad with custom aluminum panels designed, engineered and fabricated by Linel, who helped turn the architect’s vision into reality. The panels that vertically span the height of the building are approximately 25’, are 5’2” wide and 1/4” thick in a single, monolithic sheet. They are “shingled” in plain view. At the return is a 6” wide 16 gauge vertical mirror stainless steel strip. With a clear anodized 215-R1 finish, the panels softly reflect the surrounding vistas and create an interesting visual rhythm to the passer-by. The rain-screen design includes the back support aluminum framing, fine adjustment locking screws, welded studs and locating pins for ease and accuracy of installation that also affords the easy removal of the panels at any location should the need arise in the future.

Nanotechnology Research Center Building

M+W Zander, Chicago, Illinois

The Nanotechnology Research Center Building is a 150,000 square foot facility. It features laboratories, conference spaces and clean-rooms supporting both students and international collaboration and technology partnership efforts. The perforated copper panels signal the importance and creative nature of this facility during the day and at night, when back-lit.

Linel supplied the perforated copper panel screen system. A half-hard 48-ounce copper was selected. The perforations feature three different hole sizes. The panels are arranged in alternating patterns. Linel designed and fabricated the stainless steel back frames that prevent galvanic interaction with the copper and also the structural steel sub-framing projecting from the building.

North Carolina Museum of Art

Thomas Phifer & Partners, NYC, NY

The 127,000 square foot expansion of the museum, designed by Thomas Phifer & Partners fo New York City is a dramatic and important addition to the renovation of the property.

Most of the perimeter of the addition is clad with custom aluminum panels designed, engineered and fabricated by Linel, who helped turn the architect’s vision into reality.

229 panels at approximately 1,089 lineal feet are slightly tilted and leaned inward at the top. The rain-screen design incluses the back support aluminum framing, fine adjustment locking screws, welded studs and locating pins for ease and accuracy of installation that also affords the easy removal of the panels at any location should the need arise in the future.
