LATICRETE^® 1600 Unsanded Grout

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

A premium, factory prepared, polymer fortified unsanded portland cement grout designed to be mixed with water. Formulated from a blend of high strength portland cement, graded aggregates, polymers and color-fast pigments. Provides a grout joint that is dense, hard and durable.

For narrow joints (1/8" [3 mm] or less) between soft bisque glazed wall tile, non-vitreous clay tile, marble and stone.

Factory sealed containers of this product are guaranteed to be of first quality for one (1) year* if stored off the ground in a dry area.

* High humidity will reduce the shelf life of bagged product.

• Do not use where chemical resistance is required. Instead, use LATAPOXY^® SP–100 or LATAPOXY 2000 Industrial Grout.
• Do not use acid to clean colored grout joints.
• Do not allow grout to harden on the face of the tile; clean promptly.
• Jobsite conditions can affect the final color of colored grouts. Try a small test area to determine your results before grouting entire installation.
• Certain types of tile are more absorbent than others and may stain during grouting. Prior to grouting, test a tile with the grout selected. Use a grout release or sealer if required.
• Adhesives/mastics, mortars and grouts for ceramic tile, pavers, brick and stone are not replacements for waterproofing membranes. When a waterproofing membrane is required, use a LATICRETE Waterproofing Membrane (see Section 10 FILING SYSTEMS).

* Not for use in applications where enzymatic cleaners will be used. Use LATAPOXY^® 2000 Industrial Epoxy Grout for these applications.

• During cold weather, protect finished work from traffic until fully cured.
• Contains portland cement. May irritate eyes and skin. Avoid contact with eyes or prolonged contact with skin. In case of contact, flush thoroughly with water.
• In submerged applications or steam rooms, allow LATICRETE 1600 Unsanded Grout to cure for 14 days at 70°F (21°C) before use of area. See TDS 192 for more information on these applications.
• DO NOT take internally.
• Avoid breathing dust. Wear a respirator in dusty areas.
• Keep out of reach of children.

This product has been GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified^® by the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute under the GREENGUARD Standard for Low Emitting Products in finished form.

LATICRETE 1600 Unsanded Grout mixed with Water (70°F [21°C])

Before starting to grout, remove spacers and debris in grout joints and remove dust and dirt using a wet sponge. Do not leave water standing in joints. Substrate temperature must be between 40°F (4°C) and 90°F (32°C). Apply grout release or sealer if necessary. Refer to LATICRETE Grout Troubleshooting Guide for more information on grouting.

Use approximately 5 quarts (4.7 l) of clean potable water for 25 lbs (11.3 kg) of LATICRETE 1600 Unsanded Grout powder. Place water in a clean mixing container and add grout powder slowly. Mix by hand or with a slow speed mixer to a smooth, stiff consistency. Allow to slake for 5–10 minutes and remix.

Dampen tile surface with water. Spread with a sharp, firm rubber grout float. Work the grout paste into the joints until completely filled. Use diagonal strokes to pack the joints. Ensure that joint is filled and grout is not just sitting on top (i.e. "bridging the joint").

Grout Primary Cleaning—Remove excess grout from the face of the tiles with the edge of the grout float. Hold the float at a 90° angle and pull it at a 45° angle diagonally across the joints and tile to avoid pulling out the material.

Grout Secondary Cleaning—Remove remaining grout with a damp sponge (not wet) or a damp towel. Work diagonally to the joints. Allow to dry. When the grout joints are firm polish the surface with a coarse nylon pad or coarse cloth and minimal water.

Note: Use caution when polishing soft glazed tiles or polished stone.

LATICRETE has grouting materials designed for every use. For maximum stain resistance in most installations choose LATICRETE SpectraLOCK^{® †} PRO Grout. For installations that require high strength and chemical resistance choose LATAPOXY^® SP-100 or LATAPOXY 2000 Industrial Grout. These products are ideal for installations where a stain resistant, colorfast grout is desired.

MAINTENANCE

LATICRETE and LATAPOXY grouts require routine cleaning with a neutral pH soap and water. All other LATICRETE and LATAPOXY materials require no maintenance but installation performance and durability may depend on properly maintaining products supplied by other manufacturers.
