SR – Steel Rail Expansion Joint System The SR Seal is a single seal system that forms a completely watertight closure of the gap of an expansion joint and handles multi-directional movements to 4". The system features an elastomeric sealing element that, by its internal folding action, absorbs the entire movement scheme at the joint and is gripped in steel edge sections secured to the deck via anchorage and elastomeric concrete.
The applications include parking decks, access ramps and bridge decks where vehicles generate excessive loadings. There are two distinct seal shapes. The Type "C" seal is a single-ply, v-shaped profile that is ideal for applications where deflection and shear movements are serious design considerations. The Type "W" seal, with its surface mounted ribs, supports foot traffic in pedestrian applications.
The elastomeric concrete secures the assembly to the concrete deck. Formed anchor bars, welded to the sides of the steel rails, reinforce the construction. The watertight aspect of the system is achieved through the connection of the specially configured "locking lugs" of the sealing element to the extruded cavities of the steel rails. The specially configured lugs form a compression fit of the seal within the metal retainers. This positive fit prevents the passage of water and debris through the system.
- Systems for small movements to 4"
- Designs support HS20 truck axle loads
- Segmental construction makes it easy to install and ideal for rehab work
- SR System is cast into the deck using elastomeric concrete
- Type "W" seal provides a relatively level surface for pedestrians and vehicles
- Type "C" is ideal when deflection & shear movements are serious design issues
- By varying seal and anchorage types, the system is adaptable to an array of building applications
Elastomeric Concrete
Economical and efficient, elastomeric concrete controls the damage that can be caused by movement, impact, and water. It offers outstanding wear resistance and has been designed to combat the toughest conditions withstanding erosion by road salts and other petroleum based by-products.
Fast setting and easy to use, elastomeric concrete can be used in high stress, high impact areas such as on bridges, parking decks, and other commercial structures where non-shrink, energy absorbing and flexible waterproofing is required. Fibers may be added for sloped applications.
