BioBased 1701s®

BioBased 1701s® is the second product from BioBased Insulation®. It was the first soy-based and water-blown closed cell spray polyurethane foam insulation when it was released in 2006. The product uses Agrol®, a 96% pure soy-polyol, as the replacement for a portion of the petroleum-based content that's found in traditional spray foam insulations. BioBased 1701s® was the first spray foam insulation to attain the stringent GREENGUARD for Children & Schools certification in 2007.

While it incorporates a renewable resource, it still performs in the same manner as a petroleum-based product. BioBased 1701s® is a two-component system that is spray-applied as a liquid by a certified installer. It expands 30 times its size to fill cracks and to seal stud-to-stud. Once set, it provides an air barrier that will not settle, separate or deteriorate. This air barrier enables a structure to be:

Healthy
BioBased 1701s® creates a continuous air barrier around your structure which helps blocks harmful outside irritants such as mold, pollen, or other allergens and improves indoor air quality.

Comfortable
When BioBased 1701s® is installed, it quickly expands to fill every space and helps reduce air movement. By sealing the thermal envelope, conditioned air stays inside, and undesirable air is kept outside. It allows you to maintain a uniform temperature throughout the structure, reducing drafts and temperature differences from room-to-room and reducing outdoor, airborne noise pollution.

Energy Efficient
Since BioBased 1701s® creates an airtight seal, you use less energy to heat and cool your home or building. When paired with other responsible building materials, you can save up to 50% on your monthly heating and cooling bills.

Environmentally Responsible
By making your structure more energy efficient, you are able to lessen your carbon footprint - but it doesn't stop there. Since BioBased 1701s® is made by incorporating soybean oil, an annually renewable resource, the product also supports American farmers, and it helps reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Our products also are water blown, instead of chemical blown, which make them better for the environment.

Durable
BioBased 1701s® is an inert substance that does not sag or breakdown over time. It will maintain its air seal for the life of your structure. Also, it does not promote mold growth nor provide a food source for insects or rodents.

BioBased 1701s® is a 1.7 lb, semi-rigid product that is a Class II vapor retarder when installed at 2.5 inches and a Class I fire rated at four inches. Product specifications are backed by third-party testing.

Tested R-values at installed thicknesses are:
R-12 @ 2 inches
R-15 @ 2.5 inches
R-18 @ 3 inches
R-19 @ 3.5 inches
R-28 @ 5 inches
R-39 @ 7 inches
R-44 @ 8 inches

BioBased 1701s® is only installed by certified dealers who have been trained in product installation as well as building science. The product can help architects, builders and homeowners meet ENERGY STAR® requirements and earn LEED points.
