Even the finest conventional sprung wooden floors have hard spots, inconsistent traction and inadequate shock absorption. It makes them “unsympathetic” and hazardous performance surfaces.

A Harlequin Activity^® Sprung Floor system is the answer! It’s the ultimate dance floor - a blend of modern materials, technology and dance expertise - developed over more than 20 years.

ACTIVITY^® SPRUNG FLOOR SYSTEM
Harlequin Activity^® is a complete permanently installed sprung structure. There are no metal springs or rubber pads and no fixings to the existing floor. Because the floor is fully floating, Harlequin Activity^® can be laid on almost any surface, without preparation. The floor is shock-damped to avoid “trampoline effect" and combines area and point elasticity. Harlequin Activity^® has identical characteristics across the whole floor.

SPECIFICATIONS
Activity^® Sprung Floor System is only available for installation by Harlequin’s Contracts Division. The first component is a vinyl damp-proof membrane laid across the existing floor and then extended approximately 8" (200mm) up the walls. Two layers of special density cellular polyurethane are laid over the membrane. Two layers of semi-flexible Harlequin panels follow, at right angles to each other and staggered, so that joins do not coincide.

The top layer of panels is bonded to the one below with a non-setting adhesive and secured mechanically with non-return polymer-coated staples. The damp-proof membrane is folded on to the surface and secured to form a damp-proof seal. The selected Harlequin performance surface is installed and adhered. The seams are welded to form an unbroken surface. Finally, the gap between the flooring and the wall is bridged with a composite skirting profile, screwed to the edge of the floor structure to form a flexible seal to the wall.

Dimensions
The overall thickness (including dance surface) is 2" - 2 1/8" (51mm - 54mm), depending on surface specification.

Weight
37 - 46 lbs. per square yard (20 - 25 kg per square meter), depending on Harlequin performance surface chosen.

DANCE SURFACES
Harlequin has created six dance surfaces for Sprung Floor Systems. Cascade is the ultimate heavy-duty dance surface. Studio sets the standard for both studio and touring floors. Allegro is the thickest dance floor surface in the world, reducing fatigue and impact injury to extraordinarily low levels. Studio “B” and Tempo are ideally suited for modern and barefoot dancing, and Fiesta is specifically formulated for ballroom, country, line or Irish dance. See separate listings for further details.
