Expanded Metal is made from steel plates or sheets that are simultaneously slit and expanded in a cold drawn operation to form diamond shaped openings of uniform size and thickness. Regular Expanded Metal is a finished product as it comes from the press after having been die cut and expanded. Ideal for safety guards on equipment or machinery. Flattened Expanded Metal is regular expanded metal which has been cold rolled leaving a flat, smooth surface. Used to protect enclosures, shelving and ramps. Expanded Metal Grating is a heavy-duty typed expanded metal, made of steel plate which is slit and expanded in a cold-drawing operation. Designed especially for use as a lightweight open steel flooring, is ideal for flooring, catwalks, platforms and stair treads, where principal use is for light storage and foot traffic. It's low cost and light weight, combined with high strength, make for a most economical construction.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Regular Expanded Metal is a finished product as it comes from the press after having been die cut and expanded. Each sheet that comes off the expander is in standard or regular form with the junctions at the strands and bonds forming a ridge surface. Typical applications include safety guards on various pieces of equipment or machinery. The illustration to the right shows that the strands and bonds form a sharp angle to the original plane of the solid sheet.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Each sheet is expanded in the regular form and then passed through a cold rolled reducing mill. In this process the length of the sheet is elongated - usually about 5% - but the width of the sheet remains the same. The sheet is then sent through a leveler to maintain its flatness. AMICO is one of the few manufacturers of expanded metal that can flatten a sheet up to 6 feet in width. Typical applications of flattened expanded metal include protecting enclosures, shelving, and ramps.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Each sheet is produced from low carbon steel plates up to 5/16" thick. The junctions of the strand and bond form a ridged surface for improved tractions. Grating is formed like a truss so that every inter-connecting strand acts as a structural member distributing the load stress in several directions across the supporting frame. The angular position of the strand and the bond makes the expanded metal grating stronger in deflection than steel plate material in original form. This product is available only in the regular or standard type and is not flattened. Typical applications include long length or catwalk grating - usually in 10 ft. lengths by 2 or 3 ft. widths. It is also ideal for flooring, platforms and stair treads, where principal use is for light storage and foot traffic. Expanded Metal Grating can be made from carbon steel, stainless steel or aluminum in styles from 1/4" to 1 1/2".
