ATR Glass Panel Railing Systems

Aluminum Framed Panel Railings have become increasingly popular due to the code requirements for 4 in. maximum openings in railing systems. The aluminum frame is created from a variety of aluminum extrusions that can be interchanged to produce various designs. The frame serves as the structural system to carry the required loads. When needed, custom components are developed to meet the design requirements. For this reason, the panel material needs to only carry the design loads intended for the panel area.

The most common panel material used in ATR's Panel Rail system is 1/4 in. clear tempered glass. Clear glass panels offer an un-obscured view at picturesque locations. ATR's standard design captures the glass panels along the top and bottom edges only and the vertical edges are polished. The glass panels are mounted within the railing system to form 1/2 in. air gaps between the vertical edges of the panels and posts.

However, the design is not limited to clear glass panels. Depending on the type of panel material selected, designs can include virtually any panel material. Options include tinted glass, aluminum plate, aluminum clad panels, and other panel materials offering various levels of privacy. Some panels materials and/or designs require that all four panel edges be captured or otherwise supported, for example, wire mesh panels that create unique effects.

Post spacing is determined by the load criteria, post size, railing height and desired post spacing. In most cases, posts are located 48 in. to 60 in. on center. ATR's standard post spacing method divides any given railing section into equal spaces within the maximum post spacing criteria.

Finish options and information can be seen under Finishes Profile.
