In areas where high traffic and human contact may be anticipated, tempered glass is the perfect solution in both residential and commercial applications. Tempered glass resists high wind-blown debris and is ideal where breakage could involve a safety concern.
Our production process involves a special sequence of heat treatment and quenching
that produces a glass four-times stronger than annealed glass. If subjected
to stresses beyond its capacity, tempered glass disintegrates into small pieces,
greatly reducing the risk of serious injury. AGC tempered glass meets both
the CPSC 16, CFR 1201 and ANSIZ97.1 architectural standards.
- Up to four to five times stronger than annealed glass of equal thickness
- Higher resistance to thermal stress than annealed and heat-strengthened glass
- When broken, breaks into numerous small pieces
- Meets safety glazing requirements
- Use where Safety Glazing is required
- High windload areas
- Fire knock-out panels
- Glass Entrances and Storefronts
- High-Risk Human Contact Areas
- All Clear and Color Substrates
- Thicknesses ranging from: 1/8 (3mm) to 3/4 (19mm)
- Minimum size 9 x 14 (15 diagonal)
- Maximum size 96 x 168
- Meets Safety Glazing requirements, guidelines and provisions of:
- ASTM 1036-90
- ASTM 1048-90
- ANSI Z97.1, 1984
- CAN/CGSB 12.1
- CPSC 16 CFR-1201
AGC Heat-Strengthened Glass is produced similarly to tempered glass. Heat-Strengthened Glass is approximately twice as strong as annealed glass with significantly greater resistance to thermal stress when compared to annealed glass of equal thickness. Heat-Strengthened Glass is NOT considered a Safety Glass product as defined by the above mentioned glass standards, and typically breaks into larger pieces than tempered glass.
- NOT a safety glass product
- Approximately twice as strong as annealed glass of equal thickness
- Higher thermal stress resistance than annealed glass
- Typically will break into larger pieces than tempered glass
- Less optical distortion than tempered glass
- Vision and Spandrel areas where added mechanical and thermal strength is required
- Laminated Skylights and Solariums
- High windload areas
- All Clear and Color substrates
- Thicknesses ranging from: 1/8 (3mm) to 3/4 (19 mm)
- Minimum Size 9 x 14 (15 diagonal)
- Maximum Size 96 x 168
- Meets the requirements of:
- ASTM C 1036-90
- ASTM C 1048-90
- CAN/CGSB 12.3
